About

The Hygge (pronounced hyoo·guh) House is a tiny taste of Scandinavia in Southeastern Minnesota. What is Hygge? In short, it's a Scandinavian way of living that focuses on hunkering down and creating a safe, comforting and warm place to while away. My husband and I hand built the Hygge House with your comfort in mind. We love being cozy and having space to spend together so when the opportunity arose to renovate our studio, we wanted to share it!

Good to know

We made every effort to build Hygge into the house whenever we could. This guest house is connected to our garage and was inspired by a similar guest house we stayed in in Sweden. The space has a woodstove for when it's chilly, areas for reading and lounging, as well as comfortable spaces to cook and play a game together. The loft has a King bed and the main area has a twin loft bed and a full size bed that was custom built for the space. There is also a floor mattress that can be pulled out of the bean bag if needed. It features a full washer & dryer, as well as a vintage GE Range & Oven that we traveled over 200 miles to get, a fridge, microwave, drip coffee maker and a dishwasher. It also has wifi, a smart TV, and blackout curtains.

Accessibility

Neighborhood

We live in a quiet rural development. We have nearly a one acre lot with kind, quiet neighbors whose homes are out of view from the guest house. We are right off the highway so we have the best of both worlds, rural feel, but a little over 15 minute drive to downtown Rochester and the Mayo Clinic Campus. A perfect escape from the city, while still having access to everything you need. Nearest grocery store is about 10 minute drive, plenty of restaurants & bars within 15 minutes drive, state parks within a 30 minute drive, Rochester International Airport is about 15 minute drive and Minneapolis Airport is about 1hr 15 min drive.

We had such a great stay! The place was super comfortable and had everything we needed. We loved all the local recommendations—definitely helped us make the most of our trip. It was also really nice to have so much privacy and quiet. Becca was awesome—so kind, quick to respond, and really made us feel welcome. Thank you, again!

The guesthouse is very comfortable and cozy, definitely one of the most unique homes we’ve stayed in. The wood stove was perfect for fall evenings. The guesthouse is very private and the enclosed yard was perfect for our dog. Everything was so clean and Becca was very quick in her communication when needed. Great location to so many state parks that we wanted to visit in MN and WI. Would absolutely stay again!

We needed a dog friendly place to meet up for a visit with our great niece. I liked that it was compact and just right for a small group. The smart TV setup was perfect for people who normally use streaming. The privacy fenced area was great for our Aussie who was born during COVID and didn’t learn at a young age about staying in motels. We’re all short so it was easy for us to use the loft and the fan up there really helped deal with the warmer air rising up in summer.

We loved staying at Becca’s place, so much that we booked another place with her! The way the house sat, it was great for morning coffee on the patio watching my dogs play. I felt safe, and enjoyed the peacefulness of the rural area.
